The Blackbird at Nielson Tower

If you’re looking for the perfect date night place in the metro, you can never go wrong with Blackbird. With its exquisite vibe and overall good food, it would be a great venue to celebrate special occasions like birthdays and anniversaries.

Blackbird offers different sets of food for day, night, afternoon tea, and weekend brunch. And for each set, the menu is actually extensive which varies from classic European to contemporary Asian dishes.

For starters, we had the Mushroom, Fontina, and Truffle Arancini (380 Php).

Arancinis are stuffed rice balls which are coated with bread crumbs and then deep fried. Blackbird’s arancinis are perfectly cooked – crispy; with the mushroom, fontina, and truffle flavors exceptionally balanced and not overwhelming. I liked the garlic-mayo dip too.

For the mains, I had Lamb Cutlets (1280 Php) seasoned with rosemary and pepper rub plus potato gratin, fine beans, and chorizo piperade for the sides. Stefan had the dry rubbed Wagyu Hanger Steak (980 Php) which comes with mustard butter and twice cooked chips.

Although the mains are quite small in serving, both the lamb cutlets and the wagyu hanger steak are tender and well-seasoned.

We paired our meat choices with white wine. I had the Taylors Estate Riesling 2017  (480 Php per glass) while Stefan had the Spy Valley Sauvignon Blanc 2016 (500 Php per glass).

Blackbird is also known for its delectable desserts and I honestly had a hard time picking one. In the end, I got their Dark Chocolate and Almond Torte with Espresso Fudge Sauce and Burnt Butter Ice Cream (420 Php) and I’m actually very pleased especially with the burnt butter ice cream. The torte, fudge sauce, and the ice cream excellently complements each other. Although next time, I might just order 3 scoops of burnt butter because it’s just so good!

Stefan had this picture-perfect and mouthwatering White Chocolate Panna Cotta with Strawberry Sorbet, Milk Crumbs, and Marinated Strawberries (380 Php). I’m still not a fan of berries so I only tried the panna cotta which had this smooth melt-in-your-mouth texture and its sweetness is just right.

We’re lucky the place wasn’t that busy when we dined, we absolutely had a great night! The place was lovely and will surely not disappoint. I’m looking forward to try more of their food especially their desserts.
