Air Fryer Fried Chicken Recipe

Cooking fried chicken has never been easier! With an air fryer, you get the balance of maintaining crispness of the chicken’s skin as well as maintaining the its overall juiciness.

This recipe starts with making the brine for our chicken. Brining adds flavor to the meat as its seasoned from the inside out. For our brine we’ll need:

  • Onion (quarter to a half depending on the size of onion)
  • Garlic (2-3 cloves)
  • Whole black peppers (1 tsp)
  • Bay leaves (2-3 leaves)
  • Salt (1 tbsp)

Just combine all the ingredients listed above and bring it to a boil.

Afterwards, let it cool down for about 15 to 20 minutes before pouring it over the chicken.

You can drain the other ingredients before brining the chicken but it’s optional.

Now let your chicken rest in the brine for 6-12 hours before cooking. Brining will help the meat maintain enough moisture later on while cooking.

Once your chicken is ready, preheat your air fryer at 180° for 5 minutes.

As you are preheating your air fryer, towel dry your chicken and prepare for the chicken skin glaze.

Before cooking the chicken, I glaze it with a combination of fish sauce (patis) and ground black pepper.

This will add more flavor to the skin as well as a bit of color to make the skin more saturated and appetizing later on.

After glazing your chicken, it’s now time to put them in the air fryer!

I cook my chicken skin down first so that I’ll have to flip it just once but it’s entirely up to you.

I set the air fryer to 180° and let the chicken cook for 12 minutes each side.

Once done for each side, I cook the chicken with the skin up for another 5 minutes at 200° to make the skin extra crispy!

And that’s it, we now have a crispy & juicy air fried chicken! Total cooking time ~30 minutes, best paired with steamed white rice topped with chicken oil, yum!

I’m currently obsessed with my air fryer so expect for more air fryer recipes coming your way!
