Officially a Certified Freediver!

With so little preparation due to lockdowns and the pandemic, I’m so happy and relieved that I was able to achieve Molchanovs’ Wave 1 requirements and am now officially a certified freediver!

We stayed for 4 days and 3 nights at Mabini, Batangas with FreediveTribePh – spent our first day with just a fun dive but we were lucky enough to see a pawikan!

For our second day, we had our depth/line training with Coach Tugs in preparation for our certification.

We tried to reach the 10-12 meter mark during our training since the required depth for Wave 1 is 12 meters. And for our third and fourth day, the main event, we have to pass all of Molchanovs’ requirements for Wave 1.

Passing Requirements (Molchanovs Wave 1)

Pool (for Wave 1 & Lap 1)

  • 1 min 30 sec static breath hold
  • Swim 200m unassisted, non-stop in a pool setting

Open Water (for Wave 1)

  • Constant Weight: 12-20 meters
  • Free Immersion: 12-20 meters
  • Constant Weight Buddying 6-10 meters
  • Rescue from 6-10 meters

My Current PB (Personal Best)

Pool

  • 1 min 30 sec static breath hold

Open Water

  • Constant Weight: 15 meters
  • Free Immersion: 15 meters
  • Constant Weight Buddying: 10 meters
  • Rescue from 8 meters

My goal was just to pass the 12m mark, that’s why I’m so proud I even got to 15m!

We’re very lucky the sea was peaceful during our stay – made everything easier. To be honest, I had a harder time with our pool session where we all have to swim 200m unassisted with no breaks.

After our last session at the pool, Coach Tugs treated us to a huge bowl of Lomi Batangas! Thanks, Coach! 💖

Hoping for more dives soon and progressing to Wave 2, maybe? 🤪

‘Til my next post, sea you!
